Situated in the beautiful Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park, our Railway Cottage enjoys a secluded location surrounded by hills, forest, wildlife and stunning views of Glen Dochart. This historic property remained derelict for many years after the closure of the railway line sealed its fate in 1965 but has now been totally rebuilt We completed the restoration in 2019 and are delighted to offer the cottage to rent for a limited number of visits each year.

The stone cottage exudes character with a design and wealth of bespoke features that sensitively respect its fascinating railway history. A contemporary larch-clad extension provides an architectural contrast, moulding old with new. A double height entrance hallway and staircase provides light and space. New high quality furnishings sit alongside interesting antique pieces that recall its Victorian and Edwardian past. Framed photographs tell the story. An enormous open log fire complements underfloor heating. Double glazed sash and case windows combine with internal wooden shutters and reclaimed wooden floors to ensure a comfortable and cosy stay. All rooms have wonderful views of the Glen and surrounding forest.

The cottage will comfortable accommodate four adults and an additional one or two children on the Z-bed in one of the bedrooms. Additionally the bothy can sleep up to three people, camp-bed style.

The ground floor living area of the cottage is completely open plan. Entering through the front door you are greeted by a spacious double height hall. Walk straight ahead to the kitchen, dining areas and wondrous views. Or take a left to the living room, passing the gallery of photos and drawings that tell the history of the railway station and cottage.

The large open fire, rebuilt with stone taken from a derelict outbuilding takes centre stage here. Unlimited logs, kindling and matches supplied!

The two new and sumptuous sofas enjoy fabulous views of Glen Dochart through the double sliding doors that step down on to a large decking. A re-upholstered Victorian armchair provides the ideal comfort for a read or snooze.

Television, DVD/Blu-Ray player (with a library of films) and bluetooth radio/CD player provide the modern entertainment options if you ever fancy a change from the scenery and peace and quiet.

The hand built kitchen, island and breakfast bar are at the heart of the cottage. The distressed merlot red painted furniture and reclaimed wood worktops provide a traditional aura.

We’ve amassed a lovely selection of vintage crockery and other culinary paraphernalia housed in the gorgeous antique dresser. An induction hob with electric oven, fridge/freezer and dishwasher provide the mod cons.

The breakfast bar enjoys wonderful views of the countryside and if you prefer more formal eating step down to the dining table which enjoys exactly the same views and doors on to the decking.

A separate utility room provides ample space for drying boots and coats. There is a washing machine here too!

Both bedrooms are on the first floor. Double aspect windows allow guests to enjoy simultaneous views of Glen Dochart and the forest.

Original Victorian brass double beds and antique furniture provide traditional and stylish comfort. Rugs and underfloor heating keep the rooms nice and cosy.

A small double Z-bed with linen is available on request which will comfortably fit in one of the bedrooms to accommodate additional guests or for families preferring alternative sleeping arrangements.

The upstairs bathroom boasts a walk-in shower and clawfoot double-ended cast iron bath. Antique brass tapware and white builder block tiles add originality and style. Four windows ensure the views are enjoyed even whilst brushing your teeth.

The downstair wet room situated off the utility room has a similarly powerful shower and antique brass fittings. The shuttered window provides a great view when drying down!

The bothy is a separate outbuilding in the corner of the garden. Custom built to a contemporary design the larch-clad building is intended as a teenager’s hideaway but available to those of any age!

Downstairs there is a living area (with TV, DVD and radio), basic kitchen facilities and separate WC with wash basin. The mezzanine sleeping area is accessed by ladder and includes a futon mattress (guests should bring their own sleeping bags or duvet). It can sleep as many as you can squeeze in, but we recommend two or three maximum.

The cottage is surrounded by open garden with the original low-level dry stone wall marking the boundary with the National Park. There are no neighbours here – the area can be explored safe in the knowledge that the only company will be overhead buzzards, pasturing sheep, red squirrels and the occasional inquisitive deer.

Please note the garden contains a large unfenced pond – 3m x 3m and 1.5m deep.
